Lamborghini Countach LP 400S

Lamborghini Countach LP 400S

The Lamborghini Countach, styled by Marcello Gandini of the Bertone design studio, made its public debut at the 1971 Geneva motor show.  The ultra low two seater sports car took the motor show and the world by surprise.  Production started in 1974 with the LP 400 and evolved through the 1970s and 80s with the LP 400S (shown here), LP 500S, 5000QV and the 25th Anniversary model with the smooth lines of the original prototype being bulked out with each evolution.
The Lamborghini Countach is a mid-engined supercar with the rear wheels being driven by a traditional Lamborghini V12 engine mounted longitudinally.  Its design both pioneered and popularized the wedge-shaped, sharply angled look popular in many high performance sports cars.  Probably the most captivating parts were of course the scissor doors, swinging up and forward.
